What the day?!

So when I read baby wise and found out that Henry gets to take an hour to an hour and a half nap in-between feedings (like 7 a day) I was all excited that I'd actually have time to get things done! Like: blogging, writing cards, sending off baby announcements, skype, HOMEWORK AND SCHOOL. Nobody told me the mess I'd make taking care of the baby for the hour he's awake would take up the 1.5 hours of sleep to clean. Did that make any sense? Moral of the story is this: babies are messy and life is busier and at the same time less busy than I ever imagined.

Okay bye.

On a hilarious note

This is what I wore my first day back at school.

Do you notice anything wrong with this picture? Because I sure didn't until I got back home. Lucky for me, it was cold, and I wore my jacket all day anyway. Thank you, 4-days-post-delivery-and-5-hours-of-sleep brain.

ps.
Just in case you didn't notice, my shirt is backwards AND inside out.

My next task is daunting

So I'll post a few pictures instead. Then I'll write all the gory labor story and cute baby info ya'll wanna hear.
In chronological order from top to bottom, left to right...

40-5 days

Well folks, I'm past my due date. But I got to celebrate Christmas, Williams style. All the pictures I have of me on Christmas Eve/Christmas day I don't think I look at ALL pregnant, i think it's the funny angle of the camera. So I have for your enjoyment 2 separate occasions on which I wore the SAME maternity sweater. You can't blame a girl for wearing the one fancy shirt she can still fit in, can you?

Christmas party (Dec 13- 38 weeks, 5 days)

Christmas Eve (40 weeks, 2 days)

Josh and I had a wonderful time being taken care of and having our last "child" Christmas at Aunt Cheri's house. Santa came and filled our stockings and we got so many unexpected gifts! We only wish that baby would've come....although he wouldn't count as an unexpected gift because he's supposed to be here by now.

We ate the world's largest slab of prime rib for Christmas Eve dinner as well as plenty of other delicious foods. Tom and Mary (Mary who is Kendall's cousin/older sister) and their kids: Talia, Landen, and Madilyn spent the night at Cheri's house as well. They're the adorable kids featured with Josh and me above. And this picture shows our "Santa faces". I was channeling Grandpa, I think.

So. I have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow morning and my induction is set for Thursday. I'm not miserable in any way, except I wish the baby would come. I'm starting to get nervous about recovering before school starts. Other than that, Josh and I are doing good!

40 Weeks

On the dot. Today is my due date. In celebration, I worked from 9-5. I can't decide if I hope it's my last day of work or not?

Sooo Baby C obviously didn't arrive when he was supposed to...aka right after my last final. At this point, I'm fine with him staying inside so we can celebrate a fairly normal (one where we still get to be children) Christmas in Salt Lake with the Cheri/Randy family. Now we hope for December 27th.

Alaina took some good pictures of us this last week-so you get to see how big I look at 39, almost 40 weeks preggers.
The hilarious part about that second picture with Adrie is right after she was saying, "I'M WAAAAY BIGGER!" And bemoaning her huge belly. She is so kind.

Also, it's 11 PM and I can't sleep. I think since I worked from sun-up to sun-down (literally...today's the 2nd shortest day of the year) Baby C was all rocked to sleep all day and now he's up with a vengeance. He's been moving and kicking my ribs and hips since 6, so my hope is he'll go to sleep fairly soon. I'm also insanely scatter brained so please forgive my blogging.

And have yourself a Merry Christmas. It's only 2 days away now. :)

12.14.2010

38 wks 6 days

Really fast update:
Baby's head is still high so that might be a problem
1 Cm dialated (practically nothing)
Induction set for the 30th
Insane nasal congestion
New ear stuffiness
Stretch marks
1 final left.

Okay. And I'm planning on going into labor on Thursday. Just an FYI...let's see if positive thinking gets this baby here!

Week 36

Ready for the crazy that is picture for week 36? I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M PREGNANT. Well, at least that big pregnant. Sometimes I fool myself into thinking I just look a little fat instead of the hugely pregnant that I am. I am noticing more though how many people ask me how close I am, and most are surprised that I only have 3/4 weeks left. Wooooo.

I can't bend over very well and putting on shoes is the biggest pain ever. This snow blizzard we've had the last two days isn't very good for my shoe choice which consists of having to tuck my pants into boots or tie up my tennis shoes, both of which are exceedingly difficult tasks. I'm so lucky Josh can help me tie my shoes before I leave for school in the morning.

Still no heartburn, but I have crazy RLS (restless legs-a disease I used to make fun of but now I accept it's painful reality) that keeps me awake about half the nights of the week. Thankfully, foam rolling and stretching does help and I always get to sleep eventually.

Been doing some sorts of nesting stuff. Josh and I got a bookshelf/toy shelf for the nursery! It's one of the 3x3 square shelves that everyone has, but I've been wanting it since day one so I feel pretty accomplished finally having it. We're in the process of getting a crib (waiting for a 20% off coupon...come on Babies R Us) and I have to figure out what kind of bedding I want in it. The crib is a last minute decision as we couldn't decide between the pack and play or a crib. Thankfully we're not in a rush for the crib because we have the Williams bassinet for baby's first couple weeks/months. Other than some moving and setting up, I de-tagged a bunch of baby clothes to wash for Baby C's arrival. I can hardly believe it's 4 weeks away! Josh and I are finally signing up for our last minute 6 hour cram session of a prenatal class this Saturday. I reeeeally hope they still have openings.

Please excuse the random trains of thought...that's my brain on pregnancy hormones. I want to blog about how wonderful Thanksgiving was....I promise it's coming soon! Cheers! And may Baby C wait another 2 weeks.

OH YEAH and all my Christmas decorations are up. Pictures are sure to follow.

10.06.2010

Lately,

I am 29 weeks pregnant.

Baby C has this new trick of waking me up in the morning. Approximately 6 in the morning when I don't have to wake up until 7:30. How does he wake me up, you ask? He's a jumper-mover. He must push with his arms and legs in opposite directions, and when I lay on my side he moves his head until I move. It's sort of adorable until I remember he'll be out in 3 months and I actually have to get out of bed to take care of him. But he'll be cute, so it's ok.

I had a family baby shower last week and got some adorable clothing and THE COOLEST STROLLER EVER. It's bright yellow, has a matching car seat/infant carrier, it's super light, and beautiful. The Williams family also has a bassinet that started with Sally, went to Alaina, then Erica, and is now in my possession for Baby C. It's gonna be perfect for the first couple months so we can keep Baby C close to us.

That's all for now. I'm off to work and study for 2 midterms this week. Cheers!

KNITTERS NEEDED!

If you know how to knit, please make me this. PLEASE. It is literally the cutest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

You might have to buy the pattern here...but if you seriously are gonna make it for me I'LL buy the pattern for you for me. Pretty please. Baby C needs it.

3 days until Fall!

BABY BUMP!

It's week 26 and I have yet to post a true baby bump picture, so I took one special for this occasion. I'm sufficiently awkward and weirded out that Josh is taking a profile shot, so enjoy it. I also have to admit that I don't really look that pregnant in my normal everyday clothes. Something about the garment band across the middle of my belly significantly decreases the cute bumpness of pregnancy and makes it feel more like I'm just storing a lot of fat in my belly. Is this supposed to change? And can someone tell me why the third trimester is just so terrible?

Also, I found out that December 29th is the latest/earliest day the baby will come (aka I'll get induced) if he doesn't come naturally before then. I'm channeling my positive thoughts and energy into an early arrival.

New pregnancy things as of late:
  • Increased urination. It's starting back up again and I don't like it very much.
  • Breathing problems?! I all of the sudden at night am having a hard time breathing. Is this normal?
  • I've officially "popped" and I can't wear any normal pants anymore, so it's all maternity and stretchy waistbands for me. I love it.
  • Nesting....I think it's come. I am cleaning more now and I'm worried about getting things in their places and unpacking and organizing. I can't tell if this is my attempt at getting out of school work or if it's the nesting phase kicking in.
  • I can eat vegetables! I'm full on eating like a normal healthy person now, except that I still don't enjoy making salads.
  • Mood swings - I get annoyed really easily. I'm so sorry, husband. But I also get in really nurturing moods where I make batches of cookies and lasagna!
So that's all I can think of. I know there are a billion more things...but oh well. I think the weirdest trait of all is that I have this intense desire to CRAFT. I just want to make things! And I can't wait for Halloween decorating which will start on the first day of Fall.

Cheers!

Highlights from the last weeks

- Brand new microwave! We made it 2 months (with 3 weeks of vacation) without having one in the house. Josh and I (but mostly Josh) got sick of washing our 3 pots every time we had to warm something up, so new microwave it is!

- Visit to California last weekend to see Adam and Emma. We went to the Kodak and Chinese Theatres and I saw Rupert, Emma, and Dan's handprints in the cement.

- My last Dr. appointment of the second trimester. The end of September marks my entrance into the third-most-dreaded-of-all-pregnant-women trimester.

- I'm taking a personal training class. It's seriously awesome.

- Halloween decorations are ready to come out, but I'm waiting until the first day of Fall.

- Calvert family dinner last night. We got to see Amber and Abbey's family's for the second time since April.

Things to look forward to?
- Adam is visiting this weekend, Natalie comes next week, and Mom and Dad come next weekend.

- I'm gonna post a baby bump picture soon, I promise.

That's right 3 out of 18 of you! IT'S A BOY!

We can hardly believe it! We were expecting a girl, all the way, but we are so excited to have a boy! It'll be the first boy in the Williams side of the family. My parents have all daughters (thus, I have all sisters) and we have 1 niece/granddaughter so Baby C will be the first boy. I told Josh we get to have a real baby Jesus in our Christmas nativity re-enactments now! Baby C will also have plenty of boy cousins on the Calvert side to be best friends with. We promptly went to Target (conveniently 4 blocks away from the hospital) after our ultrasound and bought a baby boy outfit. We've pretty much decided that for the first 3-8 months of Baby C's life he'll live in white onesies and sweatshirts so all the cutesy outfits will wait until he's old enough to start doing cute things. I also bought a set of Duplo Lego's (my FAVORITE!) even though he has to be 1.5 years to start playing with them. I guess it's just so crazy to have a gender assigned to our little baby.

More to come on the nursery and wardrobe planning. Love!

Summer Work

In the spirit of journaling I have decided to share with the world my summer occupations.

Teaching Assistant, STDEV 139 and 399R, BYU- I completed this assignment in June after working with the same woman for 10 months. Nothing interesting to note here aside from the fact that my boss left the job, BYU, and Provo, to start her training for the FBI in Quantico, Virginia.

Lab Technician: Drug Testing Facility, Provo- If the job title sounds professional or glamorous at all you have been misled. While I am excited to put it on future applications as clinical/lab experience, what it really means it that I saw roughly 200 male "anatomies" each week since the end of April. Because we test for the probation and legal system, all of the tests are monitored, and yes, you read/inferred correctly. I literally get paid to watch guys urinate, and Yes, I have to make sure that they are providing a "real" sample that is really delivered from their "real" "anatomy." As opposed to the plethora of fake/creative/ingenious means of putting somebody else's urine into their cup.

Bonus Note: The guys I test are actually pretty awesome and I haven't even been shivved OR shanked yet.

Super Bonus Note: recently learned that by driving to and from SLC to pick up supplies I can make $25 an hour with mileage compensation.

Janitor-Early morning, BYU, HFAC- How, in one summer, do you spend more time in the HFAC then my brother Adam did in his entire tenure at BYU without joining Men's chorus? Join the early morning cleaning crew. I am not trying to make the reader feel sorry for me in any way, but the first thought that runs through my head when my alarm has gone off at 4:30 every morning is not "I can't wait to vacuum today." It is instead, simply, "I want to die." My crew, which started as a group of 4 at the start of the summer, is now down to 1, me. Shouldn't I get paid 4 times the salary for doing the same amount of work?

Bonus Note: Learn from my experience, don't work early morning janitorial.

Intern-The Road Home, Homeless Shelter, SLC- The best work of my summer was not paid. My other jobs allowed me to have at least one free day a week to drive up to Salt Lake to work at the shelter. Cliche as it might sound, this was one of those amazing, eye-opening, challenging experiences. I spent the bulk of my time doing assessments to determine eligibility for a government housing program that was specifically targeted at families who were made homeless by the recession. I have heard, smelled, and seen some very unique, heartbreaking and funny things, and I honestly cherish all of them.

Bonus Note: Did you know that 60+% of the homeless population uses less than 10% of the total money spent to combat homelessness. That means that the majority of "bums" you see aren't really costing you and the Gov. as much money as you'd think.

Researcher, BYU- I recently started doing my research project for my MPH program. Inspired by my experience at the shelter I am researching in what way the homeless use the internet to access health information. Just so you know, recent research has found that over 90% of homeless access the internet, and over 50% carry a cell phone. More information to come.

It's been a blessed and busy summer. Kendall has taught me so much in marriage about working hard for your goals (Thanks babe). I think we are both thrilled we get to go to the NW for a few weeks of rest.

Ultra Bonus Note: I can't wait to be a dad. There is nothing in my life that I am more excited for.

New House, New Life

Things I will no longer take for granted:
1. A silverware drawer
2. Walking space on both sides of the bed
3. Kitchen drawers
4. Freezer space
5. Drawers in the bathroom
6. A pantry
7. Storage, storage, storage

We completed the move to our new house! It. Is. Wonderful. We now have a second bedroom, a bigger first bedroom, a real kitchen with all kinds of drawers, and a storage room with a washer and dryer and FREEZER! Obviously there's more, but those are the key points. Basically, Josh and I are soooo happy with this move. Want to see a picture of the baby's room? OK. Just don't judge it since we only moved in 2 days ago and the baby won't be here for 5 months. My Grandma would call it the "Tomorrow Room" because I'll get to it tomorrow.

Also, this last week I sort of feel like there's a real baby inside! 4 out of 5 of my pants don't fit any more, 70% of my garments are now in storage, and I cleaned out my closet of all the shirts and dresses that won't fit my baby bump. This stuff is getting real! I also felt the baby for the first time this week (I think). It's sort of hard to tell if I'm actually feeling a baby move around or if I'm just making this stuff up in my head because I know I'm supposed to be feeling something by now. The first time that I definitely felt something was on Thursday night when Josh and I were camping with Mal, Alaina, Adrie, and Brad. We were laying down getting ready to fall asleep I felt the most distinct movement-like thing. I can only describe it like a bubble in a really viscous liquid popped. It was sort of weird, but really really exhilarating.

I'm looking forward to going to Oregon next month to shop maternity at all the Ross's free of tax. I also can't wait for M&D to get here from Oregon with my baby changing table.

I'll end this little ditty with a list, because that's what I'm good at.

Cravings: Thai food (Green Curry and Pad Thai), pizza, cranberry juice, and hard shell tacos
Aversions: eggs (still), salad (still), J Dawgs, smarties, and Burger King
